LET'S TALK ENNEAGRAMS

WHAT IS THE ENNEAGRAM?

The Enneagram is a powerful personality typing system that leads to self-awareness and understanding of others. It describes the structure and dynamics of nine personality types, opening a path to a more integrated and rewarding life.

The word Enneagram comes from its root in the Greek words ennea, meaning “nine” and gramma, meaning something “written” or “drawn”. The 9-pointed Enneagram symbol represents nine distinct strategies for relating to the self, others, and the world.

Each Enneagram type has a different pattern of thinking, feeling, and acting that arises from a deeper inner motivation or worldview. While we are all unique, we share common experiences.

THE ENNEAGRAM HELPS US TO SEE THE REASON BEHIND OUR BEHAVIOR.

The Enneagram describes three centres of intelligence and perception: head, heart and body (gut).

“While all of us have all three centres, our personality type has a particular strength and “home base” in one of them. Understanding our primary centre gives us an important key to developing our personal and professional potential and overcoming our blind spots.” (The Narrative Enneagram)

BODY (GUT) TYPES

TYPE 8:

The 8 is a focused, determined natural boss. They tend to assert power to impact reality through control and enforcing ‘my way’.

TYPE 9:

The 9 is a peacemaker. They tend to be relaxed, go with the flow, and get along with most. They enjoy work where there is some routine and where they can just focus and go on with the job.

TYPE 1:

The focus of the 1 is to work hard at being good and to maintain high standards in all areas of life; to impact reality by bringing order to chaos imposing the righteous ideals of the right way to live and work.

HEART TYPES

TYPE 2:

The 2 is kind, supportive, generous to a fault and a considerate team player. They enjoy helping, making a difference and they love connecting to people.

TYPE 3:

The 3 is a focused achiever. They tend to be naturally charismatic and focused on finding the most direct path to winning.

TYPE 4:

The 4 is strongly in touch with their feelings, needs and emotions. They want to be a unique expression for their individuality and different ways of seeing life.

HEAD TYPES

TYPE 5:

The 5 is a mental strategist that tends to live in the isolated sanctuary of intense thinking while trying to understand things thoroughly. Space and isolation give them an opportunity to observe and feel more secure.

TYPE 6:

The 6 thinks about and questions almost everything. They love to be useful, are diligent, service orientated and hardworking. They seek security, fairness and transparency.

TYPE CP6:

The counterphobic Six (CP 6) has the same core motivations as 6, but has made a psychological movement against their own fear. They may try to do brave things, or provoke authorities, just to prove to themselves that they are not afraid. They can therefore appear to be similar to 8, in assertiveness and directness, but still, retain the underlying anxiety and questioning of type 6. Often CP 6 champions justice, fairness, and the underdog in a more vocal and even aggressive way. 6 can move between counterphobic and phobic.

TYPE 7:

The 7 is energetic, vibrant, youthful, and adventurous. They tend to be social, busy, and positive. They enjoy variety, freedom, independence, and fun.

The Enneagram doesn’t put you in a box, it shows you the box that you are already in and gives you the key to open the box.
